PANTANAL OF POCONÉ, TRANSPANTANEIRA PARK ROAD

Poconé, just 100 km from Cuiabá, is one of the main gateways to the Northern Pantanal. Considered the starting point of the famous Transpantaneira Park Road, a deep cut of 145km towards the interior of the Pantanal. The road is actually a long embankment with 122 bridges that allow the constant movement of the waters. Its artificially high level in relation to the soil makes it an excellent observatory of wildlife, starting from drier areas towards the wettest, passing through a great diversity of environments. The differences between environments are complementary and considerably increase the biodiversity of fauna and flora. Traditional livestock region in native pastures for almost three centuries, today Transpantaneira has an excellent lodging structure specifically for observation and wildlife photography. About a dozen inns are installed in old farms, taking advantage of the old road structures and paths to penetrate and explore more remote areas. At the southern end of the Transpantaneira Park Road is located Porto Jofre, on the banks of the Cuiabá River, once a "road" of Indians and colonizers, now a border between the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. This is the best place in the Americas for jaguar observation in one of the most beautiful paintings of the Pantanal, where Bushmasters Ecotours proposes several circuits, blending the different environments to maximize observations of fauna and flora, as well as different landscapes and traditional culture. Contact us.

MUTUM RIVER AND MIMOSO BAYS

The northeastern portion of the Pantanal reserves us one of the most beautiful landscapes of the plain, adorned by mountains with densely forested hills. At the top of the mountains lie springs whose waters flow to the Pantanal, forming the São Lourenço and Mutum Rivers. The latter forms the Bay of Siá Mariana, an immense mirror of water bordered by numerous recesses, beaches, canals, swamps and hills abundant in wildlife. The Bay of Siá Mariana connects with the Cuiabá River, allowing access by boat to the Pantanal of Poconé in about 3 to 4 hours. Bushmasters Ecotours connects these two regions, producing itineraries of great scenic beauty and natural wealth. This region also has excellent hosting structure and activities especially aimed at wildlife observation and photographyContact us.

SOUTHERN PANTANAL & SERRA DO AMOLAR

The Pantanal extends to the South, where beautiful attractions and good structures for visitation are also concentrated. To better unveil the region, we propose departures from Campo Grande, capital of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. From there, we set off towards the west, bound for Aquidauana, Miranda and Corumbá, with the possibility to visit Bonito. The limestone geology of the region makes it the capital of crystal-clear waters, caves, and red macaws. After careful research, Bushmasters Ecotours developed a beautiful itinerary that connects the two regions sailing the Paraguay River from Corumbá. One of the treasures is hidden right in the middle of the Pantanal, the Amolar Mountain Range. Declared a Natural Heritage of Humanity, the region, permanently flooded, houses a true aquatic labyrinth of stunning scenic beauty, with thousands of hectares protected between private reserves and the Pantanal Matogrossense National Park. There we stayed in two reserves, which are also bases of scientific research. Visitors can choose to return to Campo Grande, or head to Porto Jofre, just over 150 km from the river. There awaits the classic Jaguar Tour and the Transpantaneira Park Road, ending the spectacular route in CuiabáContact us.

CRUISING IN THE HEART OF THE PANTANAL

In the heart of the Pantanal, the Cuiabá and Paraguay rivers gather their waters to form the "Sea of Xarayes", an immense flooded area cut by countless rivers, canals and lagoons of all sizes, with water mirrors reflecting the sky and the Amolar Mountain Range. The different shades of color of aquatic flora form picturesque landscapes, so beautiful that the region has been declared Natural Heritage of Humanity. There lies an immense protected area, private and public, such as the Pantanal Matogrossense National Park. With so many attractions, nothing better than a cruise in one of the best boats-hotels in the Pantanal, with all the structure of lodging and food, and quality services. We offer activities every day using speedboats, penetrating the labyrinth of the waters in search of landscapes and fauna, always accompanied by a naturalist guide. It is where we find the Amazon Water Lilies, one of the most beautiful plants in Brazil, and the special Paraguayan Grey Titi Monkey; we float and contemplate the underwater landscape in the surprisingly clear waters of the Taquari River; we walk on trails in the mountains; we enjoy lookouts, archaeological sites; etc... Cruises in the Serra do Amolar have a minimum duration of 4 nights, departing and returning to Porto Jofre, where they can be combined with a Jaguar Tour and a few days on the Transpantaneira Park Road. For those looking for more excitement, we recommend the amazing Cáceres-Porto Jofre, which cuts one of the wildest areas of the Pantanal. Going up the Paraguay River, we bordered the huge Bays Gaíva and Uberaba, we crossed the Taiaman Ecological Station and Porto Morrinhos, a region famous for its jaguars. The minimum duration is 6 nights and can also be added to the Jaguar Tour in Porte Jofre and Transpantaneira Park Road. Contact us.

PANTANAL JAGUAR

There is no better place in the world than Porto Jofre to see jaguars. This charming feline can be found on the banks of rivers, the hotter and drier part of the day, when it comes to hunting and bathing, or simply resting under the shade of riverside vegetation. Embarked, with a little luck, we have excellent chances to find a stunning large animal, where there are some of the largest of the species in the Americas, with more than 100 kg. The practice of peaceful observation of jaguars for years has made them quiet. In this way, most of the time, we can contemplate them quietly, with excellent possibilities of good photographs in their natural behavior. Their favorite prey, which are caimans and capybaras, are abundant. Sometimes it is possible to monitor hunts and slaughters. The region is also excellent for getting to know the voracious giant otters, the largest otter in the world. Currently, there is good lodging structure in Porto Jofre, in lodges and boats-hotels. There are also good boats with experienced pilots and guides. We recommend at least 3 nights on site, in order to explore and better know this beautiful area, maximizing the chances of meeting and good observations and photographs. It goes very well combined with a few more nights in lodges along the Transpantaneira Park Road, with complementary environments. Contact us.

OTHER ECOLOGICAL DESTINATIONS:

CHAPADA DOS GUIMARÃES, ITS ROCK FORMATIONS, CAVES AND WATERFALLS

A little more than 50km northeast of Cuiabá, is located the Chapada dos Guimarães, with unusual and intriguing rock formations. A worn sedimentary plateau, predominantly sandstone, is cut by numerous riverbanks and small streams of clear water, with dozens of waterfalls of various features and sizes. The southern boundary of the plateau is delineated by dozens of continuous kilometers of rocky escarpments, which reach 800m at the top. The rugged terrain provides several viewpoints, from where you can appreciate a wide horizon in the plain and where you can find a typical fauna, such as the red macaws that nest in the rocky crevices, large hawks, king vultures, etc... Ancient sea and desert with successive layers of overlapping sediments, time and weather were in charge of sculpting beautiful landscapes. It is not uncommon to come across fossils, such as shells, witnesses of the ancient marine environment. In other places, it is the arrangement of the layers that indicates the ancient presence of dunes, and there are special cases in which caves were eroded, uncommon in sandstone formations. Chapada is immersed in the Cerrado biome, at the northern end of the Prata Hydrographic Basin, near the Amazon. Therefore, the fauna and flora of the region receive different influences and at the same time complementary to the Pantanal. It is highly sought after by birdwatchers, as well as a wide variety of colorful butterflies, among other interesting items of fauna and flora. At the top of the plateau the temperatures are always milder, ideal place for walks in nature, when you can enjoy the beautiful scenery with a refreshing bath in one of its several waterfalls. There are thousands of protected hectares, 33,000 of them inside the unmissable Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park and several private reserves to explore. NOBRES, ITS RIVERS OF CRYSTALLINE WATER AND THE MACAWS LAGOON

Just north of Cuiabá and near the Chapada dos Guimarães, is the village of Bom Jardim, district of Nobres. The region can be considered the "karst" matogrossense, due to its large extension dominated by carbonate rocks, the resulting a large stream of amazingly crystalline waters. Less than 20 years ago, some visionary entrepreneurs, realizing the natural gift and immense potential of the region, began to invest in local tourism. The first activities in the region were developed around streams with translucent waters, excellent for contemplation of underwater landscapes. Nowadays, snorkeling has become the main activity, in which you can swim among schools of native fish, such as Piraputanga, the voracious Dourado, carnivore, which can reach more than 20 kg and the peculiar stingray. But Nobres is much more, and has the unmissable Macaws Lagoon, where every day at dusk dozens of blue and yellow macaw arrive to spend the night in the concentration of Buriti palm trees, whose rotten trunks take advantage to nest. The site is also used by dozens of other bird species. Although the influences of the Amazon become stronger, the fauna of the Cerrado is more present and, one of the symbol mammals of the region is the Giant Anteater, which can be found on the way to the Serra Azul waterfall, at the foot of which lies a lake of blue waters. With good structure of access and lodging, Nobres deserves your visit. Bushmasters Ecotours offers tours in Nobres, being an excellent option after visiting the Pantanal. We recommend at least 2 nights to know the main attractions. Contact us.

VILA BELA DE SANTISSIMA TRINDADE, SERRA DE RICARDO FRANCO STATE PARK AND GUAPORÉ RIVER (WEST ROUTE)

Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade was the first capital of Mato Grosso in 1751. It was there that gold miners came up with the name "Mato Grosso", when faced with the size of the Amazon rainforest. It is located 500 km west from Cuiabá, passing through Cáceres, one of the main entry points in the Pantanal, where we cross the Paraguay River. Vila Bela is on the banks of the Amazonian Guaporé River, with incredibly diverse fauna, which includes the huge Black Caiman, the Pink River Dolphin, the mythical Hoazin, a good diversity of Amazonian primates, etc... (see our list). Near the urban area, we find a huge buritizal with numerous macaws and waterfowl, several of them migratory that seek the place to nest. The Serra de Ricardo Franco State Park is on the west bank of the Guaporé river, with more than 150,000ha. With a predominance of cerrado, the top of the mountain is covered by a large expanse of native fields, ways in which springs are formed, among others, the Jatobá waterfall, the largest in Mato Grosso, with more than 250m of fall. Excellent place for hiking and bathing, with canyons and views to take the breath away. By river or road, 120 km to the north is our local partner Paço da Onça, starting point to reach Rio Verde. It is an inn originally aimed at fishermen, which in recent years has become a support structure for ecotourism. In addition to the richness of the Guaporé River and its rich Amazonian fauna, we visit the fantastic Rio Verde River, a small tributary of clean waters, where we can spot the Giant South American Turtle and the yellow-spotted sideneck turtle sun bathing, primates and several Amazonian birds. In the drought, beautiful beaches of very clear sand are formed, where we stop for lunch and bathe. There, we are on the border with Bolivia, on whose shore is the Noel Kempff National Park, with more than one and a half million hectares protected. For tours in Vila Bela, we recommend at least 5 nights, which can be combined with a visit to the Pantanal of Cáceres, famous for its concentration of jaguars and many attractions of great beauty.
